The Scottish town of Arbroath is one of the largest towns within the area of Angus. The town of Arbroath is a former burgh and it has a population of about twenty two thousand seven hundred and eighty five. The local resident of the town of Arbroath are commonly known as Arbroathians. About eighty nine per cent of the population were born within Scotland and about ninety-eight of the population were born within the United Kingdom. About sixty per cent of the population were aged between sixteen and sixty-five years of age, about twenty one per cent of the population is aged over sixty-five years of age and about twenty per cent of the population is aged under sixteen years of age. The town of Arbroath is located on the North Sea Coast and it is about sixteen miles north east of the city of Dundee. The town of Arbroath is also about forty-five miles south west of Aberdeen.

The settlement of Arbroath dates back to Pictish times and it was a small village up until 1178 when Arbroath Abbey was founded. During the time of the Industrial revolution the area of Arbroath grew dramatically mainly because of the development of the industry of Jute. During 1839 a new harbour was constructed and then by the 1900’s the town has development into a large fishing port in Scotland.

The town of Arbroath is probably most famous as being the hometown of the Arbroath Smokie and also the Arbroath Declaration. The town of Arbroath was once known as Aberbrothock and this name referred to the Brothock Burn that flows through the town.
